Workshop Scheduled - Professional Photographers of Northwest Ohio | ohio senior photographer

We will be holding a two day workshop in Toledo, Ohio on April 21st and 22nd.  The workshop is sponsored by the Professional Photographers of Northwest Ohio (PPNO) and you can visit their website and BLOG to get additonal information and to sign up for the workshop.  We will be working with high school senior models and covering studio lighting, retouching and other photoshop techniques, workflow, posing both guys and girls, and outdoor lighting techniques.  We love doing this and hope you'll be able to join us for this great two day workshop!

Thanks Jordan, Mike, and Daniel - Senior Competition Awards | columbus senior pictures

I wanted to say thanks to Jordan and Daniel from Hamilton Township High School and Mike from Canal Winchester for their great senior sessions from the Class of 2009!  I used their images in competitions earlier this year and did pretty well this year.  With Jordan's images, I took 4th place in girl's at SYNC in St. Petersburg, Florida and took 10th in boy's at SPA in Las Vegas with Daniel's images.  I also received the "Senior's Choice - Boys" for Mike's images!  I was thrilled to do so well in these national competitions but couldn't have done it without them!  Thanks again you guys and have a great freshman year in college!

Professional Photographers of America

The May issue of Professional Photographer was released recently and we were very excited and honored here at Janice Crabtree Photography to be featured in that issue.  The article focused on our high school senior portrait business, how we got started, our growth throughout the Columbus area, and why we love photographing seniors.  We submitted about twenty photographs and they chose five to be included in the article.  Congrats to Jana Kahrig, Jessica McKinney, Aaron Brown, Evanne McGraw, and Chris Holt - I will make sure you get a copy of the article.  You can read it here. 

Exciting News to share!

I recently attended the Professional Photographers of Ohio Annual Convention which was held in conjunction with the Mid-East States Regional Convention in Dayton, Ohio.  I had the opportunity to learn from some of the best photographers in the country, pick up some really great new backdrops, and I also entered the competition there for the very first time.  I had four entries and was pleased and more than a little stunned to learn I was awarded a Court of Honor Award for an album, third place Ohio Photographer of the Year, fifth place Mid-East States Photographer of the Year and all four of my entries merited and can go on to Nationals!  Needless to say, I am very excited!  While entering any competition like that is a little scary, I learned a lot by watching and listening to the judges - I would recommend putting yourself out there every now and then - you might surprise yourself!   

Pink Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend

I recently returned from a great trip to the SPA (Senior Portrait Artists) annual event in Tucson, Arizona.  It was held at the gorgeous resort, Ventana Canyon - simply beautiful surroundings to go with the WARM weather - what a treat to visit Arizona in the middle of an Ohio winter!  I had the opportunity to shoot and learn with some of the top senior photographers in the US!  While I was there, I entered folios in the girls' and boys' competition and was thrilled to receive 10th place, among several hundred entries, in the girls' folio competition - that's where the pink diamonds come into play :)  My award is a cute pink diamond paperweight!  Thanks so much to Kaitie, Aaron, Jessi, and Jeremy for their great sessions - I submitted my folios from their sessions!
